I have always been a fan of written word journaling because I feel confident and comfortable expressing myself in this manner. However, I have recently begun to do “visual journaling” which has allowed me to understand that while writing is a very powerful tool to use for getting in touch with the self, it can also serve to separate us from our feelings.
Writing is a left brain function which uses the “parameters of our individual belief systems,” while “imagery is a function of the right side of the brain.” ( Visual Journaling by Barbara Ganim and Susan Fox p.10) Visual journaling has allowed me to go deeper to explore the language of my soul. I am deeply grateful that I have come across this tool, and feel very strongly in what it has brought me today. I wanted to share the discoveries and the love that I feel towards myself and others this day.
As I move into the next phase of my life I am doing a large amount of processing and healing. It has always been my dream to reach this point in time so that I can begin to realise my full potential. This morning I realise that I have fully arrived to take charge of this healing. I understand and honour my past both good and bad as a part of who I am, and identify with each equally as part of my journey thus far. The image expressed using the visual journaling process which I entitled “Cocoon,” has allowed me to see that, without the cocoon, there would be no emergence from it. It is okay for me to have been in the protection of the cocoon, it is okay for me to emerge from it , and it is okay for me to reach my dreams and to soar, free from all that has held me back. I am overwhelmed with emotion as I say these words with true conviction and heart. I have experienced bits and pieces of this kind of healing in the past, but none has ever felt so inspired or whole. I am grateful for and honour all experiences and people that have allowed me to get to this place of understanding today. May you experience much love and acceptance in your hearts today!!!
